Joey Archuleta was raised in Wyoming and lives in New York.
His figurative - based artwork draws on Subway Writing as a direct source of inspiration. Resources from the Museum of The Art Institute of Chicago also provided determining elements in the formation of his artistic approach: "I spent more than a hundred hours in The Museum studying relationships between artists of different periods and styles, looking for indications of a direction my own art might take. Somewhere between Cezanne and Ellsworth Kelly I found my way." The painter believes art follows a logical course through its history, including instances where individuals emerge to up-end the entire order by introducing previously unimagined trajectories. Here again art falls into a logical pattern of influence and innovation, where each artist establishes their output on the foundation set by predecessors. The artist was recently featured in the 650 Madison Avenue Exhibition Project, curated by Suzanne Randolph Fine Arts, and has been selected to participate in Renee Phillips' Manhattan Arts International online gallery. |
